The Light the Way Quilt: Cover Version
Today is THE DAY! The Light the Way quilt is here and the pattern is available in the shop! Don’t miss the beautiful quilt kits available for this pattern further down this post!
I love the design and pattern so much I made FOUR versions of it! I have fabric picked out for a fifth version but I’m thinking I’ll make it next year.
Today I want to introduce you to the cover version of the pattern. You know I love some pink and red…well I think this one is SO GOOD! Maybe I’m a little biased. ;)
Let’s start with the fabrics!
The quilt top is made with Art Gallery Pure Solids in the colors: Crystal Pink, Aurora Red, Parisian Blue, and White Linen. I wish you could feel how SOFT this quilt is! It’s perfect for a snuggle on the sofa. Another thing I love about Art Gallery Fabrics is that while they are soft and cozy, they can be slightly cool to the touch at first. And if you’re a woman of a certain age like me (ahem!) then you know that’s a beautiful thing!
I’m excited to say that I will have quilt kits with these fabrics available in my shop! You can make one just like mine by grabbing the fabrics here!
The Backing
I had this quilt top made long before I knew what I was putting on the back. I auditioned LOTS of fabrics but nothing was hitting me just right.
I’m SO GLAD I didn’t use just any fabric choice just to be done. I held out knowing the right fabric would come along, and boy, did it ever! I found this older fabric from the Tula All Stars collection at my local quilt shop, We’re Sew Creative in Concord, NC. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one, or should I say two?!
Here’s the thing…they didn’t have enough of the stripe or the dot for me to make it the whole quilt back. Now that it’s pieced together, I’m glad I had to use both! It’s just so, so fun and I feel like it matches the vibe of the quilt top better than anything else could!
Don’t you just love when serendipity strikes and it all comes together?!
The Binding
I decided to use the background fabric as my binding so it disappears in the front, yet adds pink to the back. I finished it off with some big stitch binding in red, which I think adds so much to the whimsy of this version.
And did you see the ADORABLE tags I sewed into the binding? Aren’t they cute? Those are from Sarah Hearts. She has such a great collection of fun tags! AND a little birdy told me that next month she’s releasing some quilting specific tags that I cannot wait to get my hands on!
Why You’ll Love This Pattern
There are so many reasons to love this pattern:
For starters, it works great with both yardage AND fat quarters. It’s always good when you can use up your FQ stash!
It’s comes in three sizes: TRAVEL, Small Throw, and Large Throw. You can read all about the inspiration for the travel size here.
This pattern has two skill builders: you’ll learn how to do a strip in square and quarter square triangles. Don’t worry…they’re easy!
It’s versatile! This pattern can be more traditional looking by using only a few colors of yardage OR you can go for a scrappier look by using fat quarters. The more fabrics used, the scrappier the look!
Like my other patterns, there’s a little note of encouragement for YOU written into the pattern. It’s my goal to use my skills as a life coach to pass on little nuggets of encouragement and tools for living as often as I can.
