The Light the Way Quilt: TRAVEL version
I have always had an insatiable love of travel! I love the thrill of anticipating the trip AND actually being ON the trip! Because I love it so much I decided I wanted to bring travel into the Gathered Cotton brand by offering a travel size quilt in my patterns.
You can read all about how that came to happen in this post.
Today I want to introduce you to the travel size quilt of the Light The Way quilt pattern.
Let’s Go!
I tested my travel size Light The Way quilt on a recent trip to Alexandria, VA (pictured above) and on a trip up the coast of Maine. It’s really the perfect size to bring on a plane or in the car.
I have several more small trips planned for this fall and it will be fun to bring it along.
Let’s Talk About the Fabrics
This version is made with prints from Art Gallery Fabrics Serenity Fusion collection and some wovens I had in my stash. I really wish I had the exact info on the wovens, but I don’t. I’ve had them for a long time, not really knowing what I would use them for. When this pattern design came along, I knew they would be perfect with the soft muted colors of the Serenity Fusion.
Though earth tones aren’t typically a go-to color palette for me, I LOVE how this one turned out and I’m excited to bring it with me to all the places!
The Quilting
I am a new’ish owner of a Handi Quilter longarm machine! I haven’t said much about it yet because I haven’t had a lot of time to play with it. I did sign up for String and Story’s Longarm Prep course and I’ve learned the basics. As you can see, I’m really into putting the LOOPS into the loopy meander stitch! LOL
I don’t have any intentions of making longarming part of my business. I don’t even really know how far I will take learning the art of it.
It truly is it’s own artform, and right now, I’m happy designing quilt patterns. But I will say, it’s SUPER nice to be able to throw my quilts on the machine and get them finished myself…and with NO BASTING! Woo hoo!
Let’s Make It A Thing!
I’m loving this size so much you better believe that my future patterns will include a travel size, too!
I hope this inspires you to give this size a try. Even if a pattern says “baby” size, this is your permission slip to make a smaller quilt for yourself in fabrics you LOVE!
You can get the Light The Way quilt pattern in my shop! If you make a travel size quilt for yourself (even if it’s not my pattern), please share it and tag me on Instagram @JenLevin. I’d love to see what you make and where you take your quilt!
